Descripton
MySkills Medic App is an ongoing collaboration between medical school educators, students and clinicians, as a consensus and standardised approach to procedural skills commonly performed in South African health care settings. Especially aimed at senior medical students, interns and community service doctors in South Africa, the content includes
• updated, evidence-based information on procedural protocols
• quick references to relevant anatomy
• equipment and consumables commonly available in local settings
• basic information that should be provided to patients and caregivers
• practical ‘trouble-shooting’ tips from experienced clinicians
Future updates will include expanding the skills list, selected animations, links to demonstration videos and patient information audio clips in South African languages.
MySkills Medic app is free to download and can be used in the skills lab or at the patients’ bedside, even when internet connection is unavailable or unstable. The MySkills Medic menus, Search function, Favourites and pop-ups provide quick and easy navigation to the specific information you need, with additional links to related modules and internet resources. To ensure that the app does not use up valuable space on your mobile device, large files such as future videos will be accessible via external links.
Downloading the app does not require registration or logging in but users are responsible for practising strictly within their legal scope of practice as a registered health care professional.
The MySkills Consortium is a social accountability forum dedicated to sharing open access resources among health care professionals, regardless of training institution or workplace setting. We welcome feedback, constructive criticism and further opportunities for collaboration on this and other apps. Please contact us at myskillsmedic@gmail.com.
