Get your Chromecasts ready! With this update you now have more control over your casting experience from anywhere in the app. Seek, skip, and change video lessons all while you browse for that next great class!
We continue to make updates for casting. This week, we made improvements so that lessons will autoplay, even if you navigate away from the class in the app. We also made sure that the banner where you control casting doesn't overlap the Skillshare navigation bar. More casting updates coming soon!
When you're casting to a 2nd screen, we'll automatically play the next lesson in your class. This is the first of many casting updates coming your way. We also made improvements to video playback and fixed our top crashes.
This release is full of updates. Now video will keep playing in the background so that you can multi-task. If you don't want video to play automatically in the background, visit the Me tab and Settings to toggle this preference off. We made more updates to keep better track of your place in a class. You’re getting new controls to make watching class even easier. In this release, you can jump forward and back by 10 seconds. We’ve put these buttons in a convenient place for your thumbs, right next to the play button. Give us another two weeks and we’ll get you playback speeds!

Sometimes when you started downloading a class, the toggle would jump back to the “not downloading” state - even though the class was, in fact, downloading. We fixed that, along with a handful of other bugs related to downloads.
Building new habits is hard. Most people need a little encouragement. We’re here for you!
With this release, you can schedule a small reminder for yourself. Look for this in the My Classes tab. You tell us the day and time you want to learn and we’ll take it from there.

We’re laying the groundwork for some future updates to the video player. We want watching class to be reliable and effortless.
We’ve also heard from some you that your subscription doesn’t always sync properly, so we’ve been rewriting the parts of the app that handle your subscription.
Finally, we made some changes to make it easier for you to send us feedback when you see ways we can improve the app.
As a Skillshare user, you’re probably someone who is always trying to learn new things. We applaud you! And we want to help you build that learning habit, so we send you an occasional notification when we have a class we think you’ll love.
In this update, we make it easier to opt-in and out of our push notifications. You’ll either see a new prompt on your Home screen or you can check Settings to make sure you’re receiving notifications.
You may not see anything new with this update, but you should notice the app is getting more stable and reliable every week. We’re hard at work on several under-the-hood updates to make this app one that you can trust.
We moved from GCM to Firebase for our push notifications. We use notifications to help you build a learning habit and make the most of your Skillshare membership.
We rewrote our subscription code and added some behind-the-scenes tests to make sure it’s rock solid for you.
Not all updates are earth shattering. This is a lowkey update to fix a really annoying bug. In some cases, we were inadvertently logging you out of your Skillshare account. And there’s nothing worse than having only three minutes to watch class and using two of those minutes to re-enter your password. We’re giving you those precious minutes back. Go forth and watercolor!
