Walking through Groningen is walking through the Anthropocene, this era in which people leave their fingerprints everywhere. Nowhere in the Netherlands is it as visible as here. Groningen is our foreland. But what does that mean? Foreland is a place and a time. It is the land for the dike and it is also the future that you can already suspect, but where we are not yet.
This app is an invitation to take a walk through the ancient Groningen cultural landscape along four routes and listen to a time to come while walking. Four urgent themes are kept in mind: rising water, diminishing biodiversity, disappearing heritage and global warming. In Voorland, residents and experts think along about local solutions to these global problems, which you can listen to while walking.
Foreland Groningen does not pretend to predict what it will be like tomorrow, but offers a new lens to look at the Groningen you are walking through.
