In Whist trick-taking card game each player gets dealt 13 cards. The first player to start is chosen randomly, in the next round the person to start will be the next person to the left of the person who started the current round.

The other players, in clockwise order, each play a card to the trick and must follow suit by playing a card of the suit led if they have one. A player with no card of the suit led may play any card, either discarding or trumping.
