The Criminal-Executive Code of Ukraine (CECU, CEC of Ukraine) is a normative act that regulates the procedure for serving criminal penalties. Entered into force on January 1, 2004, with this invalidated the Correctional Labor Code of the Ukrainian SSR.
The Ukrainian Criminal Legislation regulates the procedure and conditions for the execution of criminal penalties in order to protect individuals, society, state from convicts, their correction and re-socialization, preventing the commission of new crimes as convicted persons and other persons, as well as preventing the illegal treatment of convicted persons.
The purpose of the criminal-executive legislation of Ukraine is to determine the principles of the execution of criminal penalties, the legal status of convicts, guarantees of the protection of their rights, interests and responsibilities, the order of applying the measures of influence to them for the purpose of correction; determination of the system of bodies and penitentiaries, their functions, supervision and control over execution of punishment, the order and terms of execution and serving; determination of release from serving a sentence.
