The Holy Quran is the Holy Book of Islam, which is followed by more than one and a half billion people, the most magnificent monument of the Arabic literary language and the last and most perfect of the heavenly books. This divinely beautiful work has conquered the hearts and minds of millions of people like a miracle of God himself. It is enough to confirm its divine beauty that even those who do not know the Arabic language do not get tired of listening to it.

Al-Qur'an ("reciting by heart"; "reading of the holy text", "admonition"), Al-Qur'an Al-Karim - revealed from God by Muhammad (pbuh) between 610 and 632, mainly in Mecca and Medina, " It is a picture of the prophet's revelations, which later appeared in the form of a book.

Because the Qur'an and other holy books were revealed by God, that is, they were sent down from heaven to earth to the prophets, this event is called revelation. And revelation is the order and revelation of God's revelation, sending of His holy books and other commands and prohibitions to His creatures, especially His prophets. The main purpose of revelation is to guide a person, to show him the path leading to the perfection of personality and spiritual progress.

From the Islamic point of view, it is not correct to put one holy book against another holy book. In the Qur'an, apart from him, only two holy books - Torah and Injil are mentioned by their special names. The Psalms that were revealed to Prophet David, as well as the pages that were sent to Prophets Abraham and Moses, are also mentioned in the Qur'an with their specific names.

A meaningful unit of the Qur'an, a finished idea, is called a verse. A verse consists of one or more words, one or more sentences. As the verses were revealed, the Holy Prophet memorized them, and then he memorized them to many of his companions, and in the meantime, he also had them written down by the scribes who were engaged in writing the revelation.

From the time the Prophet began to receive revelation, he preached the Qur'an in Mecca for 12 years, 5 months and 13 days, then he migrated to Madinah and spent 9 years, 9 months and 9 days engaged in building the Muslim community there. The verses that were revealed to him in Mecca were called the Meccan verses, and the verses that were revealed in Medina were called the Medinan verses. Even the verses that were revealed outside these cities during the periods of Mecca and Medina were known by the names of those cities. At the beginning of each surah in the Qur'an, it is indicated whether it was revealed in Mecca or Medina and the number of its verses.

A sura is a chapter, a section made up of verses of the Qur'an. The Quran consists of 114 chapters. The longest of these surahs is al-Baqarah surah consisting of 286 verses, and the shortest are al-Kawasar, al-Nasr and al-Asr surahs consisting of 3 verses.

The Holy Quran begins with Surah al-Fatiha and ends with Surah al-Nas. 90 surahs were revealed in Mecca and 24 suras in Medina.

The first and most important source of Islam is the Quran. The foundations of this religion are embodied in the Qur'an. The rulings of the Qur'an on matters of belief, worship, morality and Sharia regulate the religious and worldly affairs of Muslims.

One of the ways that God preserves the Qur'an is by giving his servants the ability to memorize it. Indeed, most people, big and small, have memorized the entire Qur'an without mistakes and defects without understanding its meaning, and have not forgotten it throughout their lives by repeating it from time to time. This is one of the characteristics that prove the miraculousness of the Qur'an.


It is possible to fully benefit from the Holy Quran only by understanding its meaning. It is important for every Muslim, male or female, to read the Qur'an, learn the truths, and regulate his way according to it. This is the duty that the Qur'an assigns to Muslims, and the Qur'an was revealed for this purpose. It is said in the Qur'an: "(O Prophet! This Qur'an) is a blessed (beneficial) book that we have sent down to you, so that (people) may think and understand its verses, and those with intelligence may learn from it!"

The translation of the Qur'an into Azerbaijani by Ziya Bunyadov and Vasim Mammadaliyev in 1991 is considered one of the most perfect translations in modern times.
